{ETSY LOVE: feeling flamingo}

I came across this amazing pic and kinda fell in love. I wandered over to Etsy to see if I could feed my new flamingo fever. Who knew there’s so much great flamingo goods to be had. Such a great pop of colour!

{SPACES: my dream room}

This post should be titled My Dream Room….For Now. I can’t help it, there’s so much inspiration out there that if I had my own moving team and unlimited funds I would be changing my whole space every year.

I’m super excited to be going to my first BlogPodium conference for bloggers in Toronto in a few weeks and they’ve had some great contests leading up to it. I just recently entered a contest to meet & have tea with uber talented Canadian celebrity designer Sarah Richardson. To enter I had to put together a Pinterest board of what my dream room would look like, including some pieces from Sarah’s lovely furniture line. It was so much fun to just fantasize and mouse click away until viola! my dream room is created. I’ve been so drawn to navy velvet sofas recently so I decided to base the room around one with lots of brass/gold accents and pops of rich jewel tone coloured accessories with additional classic teak and neutral furniture. What do you think?

You can find all the sources for this look in my Tea with Sarah Richardson Pinterest board

{COLOUR STORY: emerald green}

So I thought since we’re half way through the year that we should revisit Pantone’s colour of the year, and my personal favourite, emerald green. God I love this colour. The fact that it happens to look fabulous on this red headed green eye gal has nothing to do with it. Ok maybe a little. But I also think it’s stunning to use in home decor. It’s such a rich & bold colour. It can be trendy, classical or modern. Take a look.

Feeling a little green with envy? How amazing is that green wall in the first photo or that spiral staircase?! If you’re not ready to make a huge & permanent commitment to this colour, how about just adding a pop of it?

{SPACES: a stylish workspace}

So it’s been two weeks since my last day. So far, so good. I still don’t quite have the daily routine thing happening. There’s been a lot of organizing & catching up and it doesn’t help that I’m easily distracted. One thing is for sure, I need to set myself up with a proper workspace. I absolutely love my loft and it hasn’t been until now that I’ve wanted more….more space! I would give anything to have one more room that can be my workspace & studio. But the reality is that it’s not happening anytime soon so I’ll have to live with having my workspace in my living space. Here’s a bunch of workspaces I came across for some inspiration to help me set up my own.

As you can see, if you’re going to have your workspace in your living space, it definitely has to have some style. Here’s a roundup of what you may find on my desk. Time to work it!

{SPACES: chairs as colourful as you}

Who says everything always has to match? Well I definitely don’t say that, pretty much ever. I think people get the idea that when it comes to furniture, mixing and matching is a good thing and pre-packeged ‘sets’ are a bad thing (no offence if you have one, I’m happy to help you with that little faux pa). For example, it’s great to have your dining table one style and mix it up with different but complentary style chairs. Absolutely. Well how about mixing up the chairs? I love this look. Same style of chair but multiple colours. Obviously not for everyone but doesn’t it just make for a happy space?

Inspired to switch it up a little around the dining table? Even if you just do the two ends different colours, that would add some happy to your table. Here’s some great chairs that come in fun colours.

{SPACES: a dream home in Brazil}

Warning! This home is going to stop you in your tracks so make sure you’re not multi-tasking.

This stunning space is actually a secondary vacation home to someone living the dream in Brazil. Its design blends in beautifully with its scenic surroundings which helps to camouflage it’s size & scale. Inside it’s almost all open and full of wood and windows to bring the outside in and vice versa. I’m a colour freak but in this space I think keeping all the furniture completely neutral is perfect. The only colour is the green walls which happen to match the ‘green’ walls of windows you see.

I think this may be one of the most beautiful living spaces I’ve ever come across. Enjoy and try not to be jealous of these people.

{spaces: plants as decor}

Do you have a green thumb? I definitely don’t but I’m starting to think that that can change. I grew up with house FULL of plants and a mother & grandmother who had a passion for plants. It was just the norm for me as a kid but I realize now what we had was a beautifully designed sun room that was full of plants of all shapes & sizes. I referred to it as ‘the jungle’.

I have a history of not being to keep plants alive (so the green thumb was not passed down to me) but I love the warmth and freshness that plants add to a space. After some trial and error over the years I’ve managed to keep a few plants around and very slowly adding more to my space. I really think they give a space a finished & lived in look. They also happen to look great and help keep the air clean for us. When was the last time your pretty throw pillows did anything to help you out?

Are you thinking about adding some greenery to your place? It helps if you have south facing windows to get the best light. The plants themselves are beautiful and a great punch of colour but you can have lots of fun with how you display them. There’s lots of great planters on the market to help you make your little jungle (or lone plant) look stylish and fit in with your decor.
